A few years ago, I discovered DJ Stretch Armstrong’s book “No Sleep: NYC Nightlife Flyers 1988-1999,” where the design caught my attention for two reasons: 1. Most were handmade or printed, and 2. The diverse art styles reflected the boroughs’ diversity. Reading and later purchasing the book inspired me to explore various art styles and studies based on different flyers and brands.
In these works, you’ll find variations featuring nostalgic brands like Kool-Aid, WonderBread, and others. The subjects are the “Wavies,” the dedicated fan base of WavyWMN. This exploration deepened my appreciation for art styles predating today’s popular designs.
